“The most important thing we should be teaching young girls today is leadership.” - Zozibini Tunzi
AVUNCA - ALUWANI Vul’amathuba Ntombi Cycling Academy - is aimed at developing young, black women from disadvantaged communities.
This program is specifically aimed at young women in grades 9 to 11 in Soweto - to intervene early in their lives to impact currently unacceptable school dropout rates. Through AVUNCA, we believe we can build stronger, more balanced young women in our country.
These are lofty goals but AVUNCA aims to achieve them by addressing and developing 3 key pillars:
Mental Stamina By providing them with not only the necessary skills and exposure to overcome their life challenges but to also demonstrate the power of teamwork; the benefits of conflict management; the importance of negotiation skills; an understanding of emotional intelligence, and so much more.
Academic Progression By providing participants with accredited learnerships they will be able to acquire new skills to help them on their career paths.
Physical Health Focuses on physical health and, through the medium of track and road cycling, these young ladies will be able to increase their fitness levels, improve their general health, strengthen their immune system, and heighten their navigational and special awareness.
